Proposal

With the increase of semi-autonomous and autonomous vehicles and for better mapping in simulations, we need more precise mapping of the buffer distance between the start and end of the dotted or dashed lanes before a new or a merging lane has its full-width (this distance would be called extension).

Only ways would be affected.

Rationale

In academic research on transportation, we need even more detailed map data to make better simulations and be able to simulate correct and precise local vehicles capacities. We also need to better model lanes merging behaviours. For this reason we would like to propose a new turn:lanes:extension tag to be able to map the distance before and after the turn:lanes change in value.

Tagging

  • Key: turn:extension:lanes (turn:extension:lanes:forward, turn:extension:lanes:backward)
  • Value: same as turn:lanes but including partial lanes (lane extensions)
  • Elements tagged: ways
