Semicolon in actual name

We should have a way to escape semicolons that actually are part of the real name. (Though that is probably a very rare situation.) --Pbb (talk) 14:49, 22 January 2016 (UTC)

Frankly, I don't think that mappers should ever need to known the concept of escaping. Which is part of why I believe that those keys which can have arbitrary strings as values should never be semicolon-separated. But yes, this proposal should contain a suggestion for escaping characters. --Tordanik 15:35, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
I agree that the semicolon solution is far from ideal, but it is still much better than creating name_947253=* style tags. Please note that if someone creates name_1=*, name_2=* and name_3=*, and then someone comes and deletes name_1=*, in that case name_2=* and name_3=* are NOT automatically renumbered, creating a nice chaos in the object's tags. --Pbb (talk) 19:48, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
I fully agree with Pbb. Neither of the concepts is good, but I consider semicolon-separated lists to be less worse. Actually needed is a general solution. --Meillo (talk) 08:49, 26 January 2016 (UTC)
I found the answer, there is already a documented escape sequence: Semi-colon value separator#Escaping with .27.3B.3B.27. --Pbb (talk) 19:48, 22 January 2016 (UTC)
