Philippine-based OpenStreetMappers love Mapping Parties. If you want to join or host one in the future, this page is for planning and coordinating them. Past Mapping Parties are also enumerated here.

Upcoming parties

Title (Location) Date(s) Type Short description
QC Scout Area Mapping Party 2011-02-11 Micro
Corregidor Mapping Party TBA Micro, GPS Originally planned for May 2010, this mapping party is shelved for the moment until more resources for planning this party can be obtained. Currently, Corregidor is pretty much a blank slate but it is a popular tourist spot. This Mapping Party will thus be similar to the Tagaytay Mapping Party in May 2009.
Samal Island Mapping Party TBA GPS This is a possible follow-up to the Davao City Mapping Party. There are currently no plans yet underway.

Past parties

No. Title (Location) Date(s) Type Short description
1 Tagaytay Mapping Party May 16, 2009 Micro, GPS This is the first ever Mapping Party in the Philippines and possibly the first in Southeast Asia. Tagaytay was chosen due to its proximity to Metro Manila, lack of hi-res satellite imagery, and tourist status. The aim of the party was to map as much of the city and by many respects, it was a success with 8 mappers in attendance.
2 Davao City Mapping Party July 4, 2009 Micro, GPS
3 Cubao Mapping Party December 13, 2009 Micro, Walking Papers This party aimed to do a Walking Papers-style of mapping, to have a mini-Christmas Party (coinciding with the worldwide OSM Christmas Party), and to serve as a meeting for 2010 planning. Three OSMers were in attendance.
4 Marikina Mapping Party March 20, 2010 Micro, Walking Papers The Marikina Mapping Party is similar in style to the Cubao Mapping Party back in December 2009. Practically all of the streets are complete in Marikina (excellent work by maning) and so what was needed is more POIs. After the mapping portion, an editing session/socials was held in the evening, similar to the Grappa's meet-up last February 2009.
5 Ortigas-Mandaluyong Mapping Party May 22, 2010 Micro, GPS, Walking Papers This Mapping Party aims to create the best map of Ortigas Center (similar to the current coverage of the Makati CBD) as well as to complete the basic coverage of nearby areas that still don't have roads in OSM.
6 Cavite Road Network Mapping Party September 11, 2010 GPS This Mapping Party aims to complete and verify the major road network of Cavite such that basic routing between the different cities and municipalities of this historic province is possible. The party pushed through with 3 teams and 9 people roughly covering 14 cities and municipalities in central and southern Cavite and the roads connecting them.
7 Intramuros Mapping Party December 11, 2010 Micro, Walking Papers This was 2010's fourth quarterly Mapping Party for the Greater Manila Area.
8 UP Village+ Mapping Party April 30, 2016 Micro, GPS, Walking Papers Mapping Party sponsored by DOST-Project NOAH for Barangay UP Village.

Proposed parties

This section is for proposing and discussing possible Mapping Party venues and ideas. If you want you want your local area mapped, then add it here and explain why. If you are willing to coordinate logistics for the event, please include them here too.

  • Verify road names in Pangasinan. This area received high-resolution QuickBird images donation from DigitalGlobe as a response to humanitarian rebuilding efforts. Much of the roads visible in the imagery are now traced. A field survey is necessary to update the road types and names. The goal is to at least add names to major roads.
  • Chinatown in Manila. Perfect for adding POIs, lots of interesting shops and novelty stores around Binondo, Quiapo and Divisoria. Maning 07:25, 28 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Barangay scavenger hunt in Malate, Ermita, and Intramuros in Manila Go around these three districts collecting the boundaries of each barangay, location of their barangay halls, and their zone number (POIs and road verifying is incidental). This would entail talking to tons of barangay officials so OSM-PH, Inc. should have been established already. This proposal is in the case no acceptable data can be obtained from the Manila City Hall. seav 05:39, 29 January 2010 (UTC)
  • Select a province and map all the primary roads connecting each municipality. Need a lot of gas!
    • Joyride! I would suggest Batangas but this province is almost nearing completion of main roads. --seav 04:43, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
    • I suggest western Quezon and/or eastern (interior) Laguna. (I haven't been to Dolores, Quezon since I got hold of the GPS) Parts of Rizal not covered by Yahoo imagery could be potential mapping areas (specifically Jala-Jala). Anilao is also a good place. -Ianlopez1115 09:54, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
    • I've done some thinking about this and I think Cavite is a good province to initiate this suggestion. Laguna is mostly complete in its major roads because of the import while there are a few people already doing Batangas (Ed, Basilisk, etc.). Rizal is being done by Rally. Bulacan is also good, but there's available satellite imagery for this. Cavite has practically no satellite imagery especially in the southern parts. --seav 09:37, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
    • I find Batangas very incomplete, much more detail on other maps... --Kzap 12:53, 26 May 2010 (UTC)
    • Bataan. Basically like 2010's Cavite Road Network Mapping Party but this time in Bataan, and with more emphasis on town centers since Bataan's road network is mostly complete (I think--correct me if I'm wrong). --seav 14:56, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Intramuros historical mapping - map all markers and features of historical significance around the "Walled City".
    • Why don't we try having a tie-in with with Carlos Celdran, the famed guy giving Walking Tours of Manila? --seav 04:43, 8 March 2010 (UTC)
    • I recently went to Intramuros and I agree that this is a really good spot for mapping! --seav 05:06, 17 May 2010 (UTC)
  • Tondo, Manila. Lots of residential roads (and alleys)--very difficult to map in high-res imagery.
  • Road trip to Infanta. Verify the new road going to Infanta from Rizal and add names of streets in Infanta.
  • Hundred Islands (in Alaminos, Pangasinan). Update the tourist map by visiting several islands and walk the coastline. Let's hook-up with the LGU.
  • review one town and formally declare as "road complete".
  • QC Scout Area (basically theareas covered by Barangays South Triangle, Sacred Heart, Kamuning, Laging Handa, Obrero, Paligsahan, and Roxas. This combined area is slightly larger than the Intramuros Mapping Party area. Why this area? A colleague of mine mentioned that he noticed the lack of POIs in this area on the OSMPH Garmin map, and this is a target area of Ian Lopez (based on one of his wiki pages), and Wayne works in GMANews.TV so he would be familiar with this area. --seav 14:56, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Pateros. Why not make Metro Manila's last and smallest municipality the most complete area in Metro Manila, more complete than even Marikina? ;-) --seav 14:56, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
  • Western San Juan (basically San Juan minus Barangays West Crame and Greenhills). This is one of the most confusing areas in Metro Manila with its numerous one ways and a lack of grid streets but is where drivers know shortcuts to avoid traffic in the major Metro Manila thoroughfares. --seav 14:56, 17 January 2011 (UTC)
