Meaning

This tag may be used for medium-sized combined medical centres and polyclinics with tens of doctors, nurses and associated staff which offers outpatient care, diagnosis and treatment. Minor surgeries and ongoing treatments may be available here, as may drop-in emergency care. Admission of inpatients is not typically provided. Alternatively, a "clinic" may simply be a building where a specific, specialised branch of medicine is practised.

How to tag

When tagging, you may wish to consider using amenity=doctors or amenity=dentist instead if the practice is small and specialised, with perhaps only 1 to 10 staff. Also consider amenity=hospital if the facility is very large with hundreds of staff and/or offers inpatient care (beds for long stays).

Either place a node Node at the rough geographical centre of the clinic, or draw a closed way Area around its perimeter if you have survey data or good imagery. Tag the object you just created with something like:

amenity=clinic
name=Midshire Health Services, Sampleton

Further, more detailed healthcare-related tags may emerge over time, but the above is a good start.

Discussion

This is a de-facto tag, so there almost certainly unresolved issues. Please use the talk page to discuss and resolve the details and help refine this documentation.
