A  Border control is a control point at an international border between two countries. Passports or other forms of ID might be checked and/or a customs check is carried out. At some international border crossings there are several distinct control points. Tag the place where border control actually takes place, not the border itself.

In addition to "traditional" land border control checkpoints, this tag should be also used for passport control facilities inside airports which are usually present in international departures and arrivals areas. See Simple Indoor Tagging for details on indoor mapping. Do not add this tag to airports buildings themselves.

How to map

Draw a node node on an existing way to the position of the control point and add barrier=border_control.

Draw a way way where the border control is located (e.g. inside the airport building) and add barrier=border_control. Also use this if you want to map a row of passport control booths. If it crosses another highway/footway, make sure to create a node on the crossing so the barrier is part of regular highway/footway.

Draw an area area around the building/area where border control checks are taking place, add barrier=border_control, also consider adding building=* if there is a building or roof. In some cases government=border_control might be more suitable here.
