A fence is a freestanding structure designed to restrict or prevent movement across a boundary. It is generally distinguished from a wall by the lightness of its construction.

Is under discussion if its better to use fence_type=* eg: barrier=fence;fence_type=wood -or- general barrier=*. eg: barrier=wood_fence to specify the type of fence. Usage tends to point second option as most popular.

It might be suggested to use barrier=fence;fence_type=wood so that data users can distinguish bollard from a fence without hardcoding hundreds of possible fence types, materials, colours and other detail.
