A ventilation shaft is the above ground site of a vertical shaft used in mines, tunnels, or buildings allowing stale air to leave the space underneath and/or fresh air to enter it.

How to map

Set a node node at the centre of the ventilation shaft. Add the tag man_made=ventilation_shaft.

Useful additional tags

  • building=yes - Ventilation shaft as a building (outline for 3D)
  • height=* - Height in meters
  • material=* - Material from which the ventilation shaft is built
  • historic=yes - when the ventilation shaft is historical and is no longer used for the original purpose.

For ventilation shafts that are part of railway infrastructure, it might be advisable to use railway=ventilation_shaft instead.
