Summary

A place where you can play lawn bowls/lawn bowling. The pitch is most typically a lawn (hence "lawn bowls"), but not always. The surface may be natural grass, or artificial turf. It can be played indoors. Includes all variations of lawn bowls including "flat-green bowls" and "crown-green bowls".

Description

[W] Bowls or lawn bowls is a sport in which the objective is to roll biased balls so that they stop close to a smaller ball called a "jack" or "kitty". It is played on a pitch which may be flat (for "flat-green bowls") or convex or uneven (for "crown-green bowls"). It is normally played outdoors (although there are many indoor venues) and the outdoor surface is either natural grass, artificial turf, or cotula (in New Zealand).

How to Map

This value can be used with the sport tag on nodes Node or areas Area.
For indoor bowling you might place this tag on a whole building, or use separate a node or area within the outer building area, to represent the location of the bowls pitch within the building.

Useful Combination

Since this is a non-physical tag it should always be combined with some other (physical) tags, eg:* leisure=pitch
