dubious use of leisure=track

"leisure=track - gallop track (if racecourse use sport=horse_racing)" - is gallop track form of racing? Note https://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Tag:leisure%3Dtrack "A track for running, cycling and other non-motorised racing such as horses, greyhounds." Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 20:22, 24 January 2019 (UTC)

See relation example, this is not a racing track (too small); on this page is a photo of this track (to the right of "ca. 700 m Galoppbahn (Sand)"). Not all gallop tracks are located on racecourses where horse racing takes place, see example photos:
  • Gallop, Sea Barn Farm - geograph.org.uk - 1557731.jpg
  • Gallop Alongside The Track To Worsley House - geograph.org.uk - 1482870.jpg
  • Gallops of Belmont Farm, Mill Hill - geograph.org.uk - 132277.jpg
  • How should they be tagged? highway=track + sport=equestrian? highway=track + horse=designated + sport=equestrian? highway=track + sport=horse_racing? leisure=track + sport=horse_racing? Or how?

A gallop track is a training/exercise track usually found at stables. I've been tagging them as leisure=track, gallop=yes, however I think they're specific enough to have their own tag - leisure=gallop_track. --DaveF63 (talk) 21:10, 2 April 2022 (UTC)

Subtags for Dressage and Jumping Arenas

I have no idea what I am talking about but apparently there are quite specific pitch types in equestrian sport. I have seen misuse of the name tag (e.g., https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/326194368, https://www.openstreetmap.org/way/832933501) and would like to see suitable subtags to get rid of this. ;) Maybe equestrian=showjumping, equestrian=dressage etc., cf. https://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/keys/equestrian#values Someone with equestrian experience please comment (possibly with a list of useful values). --Stefanct (talk) 18:30, 23 February 2021 (UTC)

That's funny that he used English names for riding arenas in Vienna. name=Reitplatz is a more frequent misuse of the name tag. I have put things like "Springplatz" in the description tag so far. equestrian=* would make sense, like athletics=* and shooting=*. [W] dressage and [W] showjumping (or [W] show_jumping, not sure which one is better, see google trends) would probably be the most used values in Europe. Unfortnately, we already have 188 leisure=pitch + sport=polo but only 1 leisure=pitch + sport=equestrian + equestrian=polo. Other disciplines:  equestrian sports and [W] List of equestrian sports. --Hufkratzer (talk) 23:36, 11 February 2022 (UTC)
In the UK the French word / manège appears to be used for "riding arena or exercise rectangle". --DaveF63 (talk) 21:21, 2 April 2022 (UTC)
