sport vs. recreation

The last edit changed the description from "A place where people do swimming." to "A place where people swim for sport or recreation." This would mean that the tag could be added to features where swimming as a sport is not feasible. Was this discussed somewhere? Isn't it a contradiction to what can be found on:

Shouldn't this tag better be used to distinguish between places which are suited for practicing swimming as a sport and others which are not? --Hufkratzer (talk) 21:14, 27 August 2023 (UTC)

I did my best trying to interpret the original meaning of the page, but I will change it to sport only. --SherbetS (talk) 23:47, 27 August 2023 (UTC)
Thanks for improving, but I think the table with the examples is still a bit messed up
* the photos for the pool and the pool area are swapped
* since this is the wiki page for sport=swimming, the examples should all contain this tag (as it was before)
* the tagging of "Indoor swimming pool" seems questionable/confusing, compare Swimming and bathing#Swimming pool facility

building=* vs. indoor=yes in example for indoor swimming pool

In the example for the indoor swimming pool someone changed building=yes to indoor=yes. The example is meant for a building in which you can swim. It is true, that buildings and their use can be mapped separately, e.g a node with leisure=sports_centre + sport=swimming inside of an area with building=*. But for indoor swimming pools this is not the usual tagging; the usual tagging is to place leisure=sports_centre + sport=swimming together with building=* on the same area object. We currently have 7k building=* + leisure=sports_centre + sport=swimming, but only 0.1k indoor=yes + leisure=sports_centre + sport=swimming. Not to mention this is confusing and a contradiction to other examples in Swimming and bathing#Swimming pool facility and Tag:leisure=sports_centre#Indoor.

Therefore, I propose to change indoor=yes to building=* and add a note explaining that the tags for the building and the use can alternatively be placed on separate objects, that in this case indoor=yes can be added to the object for the use and that leisure=sports_hall can be used instead of leisure=sports_centre. This makes this example compatible with the others.

Is anyone against this change, can anyone confirm that it is a good idea, or does anyone have a better suggestion? --Hufkratzer (talk) 16:23, 24 January 2024 (UTC)

Note that sports centre / swimming pool may fill only part of a building or be tagged separately from building Mateusz Konieczny (talk) 16:52, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
I know. This is not a contradiction to what I have written. --Hufkratzer (talk) 16:57, 24 January 2024 (UTC)
