Circulation Ways

The discussion and estandarization are in the forum: Propuestas para la clasificación de rutas, autopistas, autovías, etc

Routes, rural ways

What How Explanation Render
Motorways ("Autopistas") highway=motorway,

Draw both ways with oneway=yes

A motorway is a multilane way without streets or railways, with physically separated carriageways and direct access from adjacent properties is limited.

Both circulation ways must be drawn separately.

Eg. Autopista Rosario - Córdoba

Rendering-highway motorway neutral.png
Dual carriageways ("Autovías") highway=trunkmotorroad=yesDraw both ways with oneway=yes The dual carriageway is similar to a motorway but it may have intersections with streets or railways and direct access from adjacent properties.

Both circulation ways must be drawn separately.

Eg. Autovía Buenos Aires - Mar del Plata

Rendering-highway trunk L3005 MF.png
National Routes highway=primary + ref=RNroute Ex. RN7 Rendering-highway primary neutral.png
Provincial Routes highway=secondary + ref=RProute Ex. RP7 Rendering-highway secondary neutral.png
Tertiary roads, secondary provincial roads and access to towns highway=tertiary + name=Acceso a XYZ or name=Camino secundario XXX-YY Where XYZ is the corresponding place. If the way has its own name (like Camino Negro, Camino del Meridiano V, Camino de la Carrindanga, etcetera) it must be specified with a name=* tag.

Within cities the urban way classification will have priority.

In cities

What How Explanation
Motorways ("Autopistas")  highway=motorway,

Draw both ways with oneway=yes

Tax-free roads

("Colectoras")

highway=secondary, and oneway=yes if applies
Avenues that are part of a route Route tag and maxspeed=* Restrict velocity with maxspeed=*
Avenues  highway=secondary If the avenue has two or more lanes physically separated, each way must be tagged with oneway=yes
Streets highway=residential
Public access highway=service Eg. access to buildings, parkings, service stations, industrial parks, etcetera
Restricted access highway=service + access=private
Streets of gated communities and country clubs highway=living_street + access=private
Unknown road type highway=road
Pedestrian ways without commercial activity highway=footway Eg. Park ways, trainstation access, and all ways with the intention to allow pedestrian and/or bike circulation
Pedestrian ways with commercial activity highway=pedestrian Eg. Shopping ways, bars, restaurants, etcetera
Flights of steps on footways highway=steps
