Similar to seamark:type, beacon positions on land can be mapped. Currently this is used primarily for vehicle preemption at traffic lights, e.g. trams and buses.

Object OSM element landmark:type description
traffic preemption beacon position node beacon_traffic_signals Position where the beacon signal is sent from. More detailed information should be added:
  • beacon_traffic_signals:ref=Position number (typically between 1 and 65535)
  • beacon_traffic_signals:direction=1 (forward, if at a node in highway=*)
  • beacon_traffic_signals:direction=-1 (backward, if at a node in highway=*)
  • beacon_traffic_signals:direction=N (North, also allowed: S, W, E, NW, NE, etc.)

This beacon signal is used for vehicle preemption at traffic lights mainly in European countries.
