Optional variety and orthography subtags
name:oc=* is the general tag for a name in Occitan and should be preferred whenever identifying a specific variety or orthography is unnecessary.
The IANA language subtag registry provides optional subtags for Occitan varieties, including auvern, gascon, lemosin, lengadoc, provenc, vivaraup, creiss, aranes, cisaup and nicard.
Optional orthography subtags include grclass for the classical orthography, grmistr for the Mistralian orthography and its derivatives, grital for Italian-influenced spelling and grautres for other orthographies.
Examples:
name:oc-provenc-grmistr=*for a Provençal name in Mistralian orthography;name:oc-gascon-grmistr=*for a Gascon name in the Fébusian orthography;name:oc-lengadoc=*for a Languedocien name;name:oc-nicard-grital=*for a Niçard name in Italian-influenced spelling.
These subtags supplement name:oc=*; they should not replace the simpler tag when no additional distinction is needed.
GeoOccitania
GeoOccitania combines a cartographic portal and a web application for exploring Occitan toponymy, working with thematic selections and contributing to OpenStreetMap. The application helps contributors complete name:oc=* and source:name:oc=*, but does not replace linguistic verification, local knowledge or the OpenStreetMap contribution guidelines.
