Proposal to delete City CarShare car sharing locations

The OpenStreetMap database has 176 CityCarShare car sharing locations, all in the San Francisco Bay Area. I believe that none of these locations still exists on the ground, so I propose to delete all 176 of them.

History

City CarShare was a nonprofit organization that offered short-term car rentals from fixed parking spaces on streets and in parking garages.

Bryce C Nesbitt imported 179 City CarShare locations in 2011 using Osmsync, and then imported 58 more in 2015. Those were probably accurate at the time, but City CarShare has changed dramatically since then.

In November 2016, City CarShare merged with Getaround.[1] The CityCarShare website now redirects to the Getaround website. The Getaround website describes their services as only covering peer-to-peer rentals, with no mention of company-owned cars in designated parking spaces like City CarShare.

The City CarShare locations in the OpenStreetMap database have mostly gone unnoticed since then. Almost no maps show car sharing locations, so very few mappers have spent time checking that they are still accurate.

Current status

CityCarShare effectively no longer exists. I have surveyed about 20 City CarShare locations in the OpenStreetMap database. None of them had any visible signs that CityCarShare ever operated there. A few other mappers have deleted some other City CarShare locations.

I have deleted the locations that I have been able to survey in person. Now, to help clean up obsolete nodes from the database, I propose to delete the remaining 176. I will do this one time only.

Forum discussion

Nobody objected, so I deleted the car sharing locations in https://www.openstreetmap.org/changeset/153093512 .
