Cambridgeshire County Council is producing new editions of their printed cycle maps for 2023 (with online extracts straight from the artwork) for various parts of their area .

I, David Earl, am contracted by them for preparation of artwork in autumn/winter 2022. I did some of their earlier maps in 2011 and 2015; other contractors have also produced such maps.

Mostly this is using map data as a consumer, but there are a few places where, apart from normal, routine updates, a map change is helpful.

In particular, there is nothing to distinguish the Cambridge primary (explicitly signposted) and secondary (recommended by the County Council) networks from any other cycleways marked as such.

Therefore I am introducing a couple of relations in order to group these networks together. Similar relations were introduced prior to organised editing guidelines which grouped cycleways and routes forming a published network, for example, a group of Huntingdonshire published leisure routes (for example HDC route 7). This is not different in principle to, for example, National Cycle Network route relations, just on a smaller scale. It may also be useful to others to match what the County Council deems its network in its published materials and on the ground.
