The Santa Clarita Bicycle and Trail Import is an import of the city's trail system dataset covering Santa Clarita, CA, USA. The import is currently (Nov. 9, 2021) at the planning stage.

Goals

The goal of this import is to add bicycle lanes, bicycle routes and multi-use trails to the City of Santa Clarita. There is a lack of existing data of bike lanes and routes within the city. Multi-use trails are more well-mapped, but many are lacking any detailed information such as: name, length and hiking difficulty. This import would be very useful for the bicyclists and hikers of the community.

Schedule

The project is in early planning stages. Schedule soon to follow.

Data Preparation

Data Reduction & Simplification

The dataset is already in one shapefile, however, a few modifications are needed. The dataset includes features which are not bike lanes, routes or multi-use trails, so they will be excluded. Additionally, the dataset includes proposed trails; these will also be excluded as they do not exist yet.
