Overview
Hebstreits Custom Vector Map Service is a commercial web service that produces bespoke vector maps based on OpenStreetMap (OSM) data. The service targets print and large-format use (e.g., signage, posters, wall art) and delivers layered files suitable for further editing in common design tools.
Output and formats
- Raster: JPG (XL), PNG (XL)
- Vector: PDF, EPS, SVG
- Design variants: “Simply Reduced”, “Reduced & Labeled”, “Colorful Decorative” (selection of predefined styles)
Map content and options
Base content typically includes major/minor roads, paths, rail, water, and green areas. Customers can request additional layers or labels as add-ons:
- **Design layers** (added as separate layers in the file): minor paths/living streets, parks/nature reserves, golf & sports areas, islands, water areas, airports, city boundaries, buildings.
- **Naming layers** (labels): highways (icons/signs), major/minor street names, suburbs/districts, city names, parks/nature reserves, airports, water areas.
- **Detail upgrade**: highest zoom-level street/detail density (intended for very large prints and powerful hardware).
- **Recoloring**: adjustment to one of the predefined color themes.
Notes:
- Labels are supplied as vector paths (outlines), not editable text.
- Immediate self-service export is not offered; files are prepared and delivered after order.
Workflow
Typical steps: choose download type and license, set area/coordinates, select color style, and (optionally) add layers/labels or upgrades. Files are prepared to match the previewed area and delivered as the selected format.
Licensing and attribution
Delivered map files are “Produced Works” from OSM data. Reuse (including commercial print use) requires proper OSM attribution as appropriate (e.g., “© OpenStreetMap contributors”). Additional licensing options for extended print/digital uses are available on the vendor site.
Limitations
- Labels are not text-editable (outlines only).
- Custom, one-off map styles on request are not offered.
