History

Art of Animation has had some interesting history as the Resort would have been known as the Legendary Years of Pop Century Resort and across the lake where Pop Century only consists now as the Classic Years. The Legendary Years would have consisted of themed buildings from the 1900's through the 1940's. Construction was halted on Pop Century when Tourism dropped in Central Florida due to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. In 2002 construction on the resort continued only on the Classic Years section with the Legendary Years being abandoned. The Classic Years opened on December 14, 2003 to great success but numbers never accumulated resort-wide for the completion of the Resort until 2010 when the plan to finish the other half of the hotel was put back in motion. The Legendary Years was dropped from the second half of Pop Century and instead took up the theme of Animation. Art of Animation opened to even larger success. Some of the Original architecture from Pop Century can be seen in the hotel as apart of Animation Hall and the Little Mermaid section because those building's exterior was completed prior to the construction shutdown.
