Disney's Pop Century Resort is a Hotel in Bay Lake, Florida at latitude 28°21′00.81″ North, longitude 81°32′39.31″ West.

Pop Century Resort is one of nineteen of the Disney owned hotels and resorts on Walt Disney World Resort property. Pop Century opened on December 14, 2003 and sits on the western shore of Hourglass Lake across from Disney's Art of Animation Resort, which is accessible by foot around the lake or across by Generation Gap Bridge. Pop Century is themed to the American Pop culture from 1950's through 1990's.

History

Pop Century has had some interesting history as the Resort is known as the Classic Years and across the lake where Art of Animation exists now would have been known as the Legendary Years. The Legendary Years would have consisted of themed buildings from the 1900's through the 1940's. Construction was halted on the resort when Tourism dropped in Central Florida due to the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. In 2002 construction on the resort continued only on the Classic Years section with the Legendary Years being abandoned. The Classic Years opened to great success but numbers never accumulated resort-wide for the completion of the Resort until 2010 when the plan to finish the other half of the hotel was put back in motion. The Legendary Years was dropped from the second half of the hotel and instead took up the theme of Animation. Art of Animation opened May 31, 2012 to even larger success. Some of the Original architecture from Pop Century can be seen in Art of Animation in their main building and the Little Mermaid sections because those buildings were completed prior to the construction shutdown.
