The Emerging City Lab - Addis Ababa (ECL-AA) is an interdisciplinary and transdisciplinary teaching and research platform focused on urbanization in Subsaharan Africa. The ECL-AA was jointly established in 2015 as an exchange platform, research center and real-world laboratory by the bauhaus.ifex at Bauhaus-Universität Weimar and the Ethiopian Institute of Architecture, Building Construction and City Development (EiABC). Due to the transdisciplinary and practice-oriented character of the lab, it tightly cooperates with industry partners, international partner institutions, students and postgraduates.

As part of our research projects, especially the project INUMO (Integrated Urban Mobility – Digital Methods for Interactive Scenario Development of Sustainable Traffic Infrastructure for Emerging Cities in Ethiopia), we are mapping transport infrastructure and land-use in emerging cities in Ethiopia and, for a reference scenario, also in Weimar, Germany.
