update v0.12 The new script is now available, along with the sample area. More work is needed, but i think it's ok. Right now it mixes up waterbody inner with outer. Update v0.04 Is now available, to view the sample area. of Niagara Falls, Ontario. Working with canvec2osm this script now filters out the duplicates of map features. The script is available on Google Docs --acrosscanadatrails 05:15, 6 April 2009 (UTC)
Update v0.03 Is now available. acrosscanadatrails 22:21, 25 March 2009 (UTC) geobaseNHN2osm0_03.zip organizes the info a bit better, and includes the cool 1-way river designations, as well as alot of river/waterway names that the canvec set does not include. There are still a few features which are (or need to be) on the proposal list. The polygons are odd-shaped to flow with the water. This shape file is available in the 'extra' folder. You can view the rules.txt script from Google Docs which gets updated frequently.
If you want a sample area done, i can run the script for you which is also available on Google Docs it's a .bat file and works by unzipping the GeoBaseNHN shp folder to the c:\geobaseNHN2osm folder (create it if it's not already done)

The script takes the GeoBase National Hydrological Network's map area SHP files and converts it to OSM format.
These tags to need to be fixed.
The chart is available Geobase NHN - OSM Map Feature.
The sample area is of Niagara Falls Ontario. Please do not upload any map features to OSM, as these tags are most likely to change.
