Minutes of meeting of the Training Working Group of the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team

Rework learnOSM

Michael extended the introductory page by hints for suggested reading for different scenarios. Currently this is visible on the staging site. Suggestions and comments are welcome.

Russell had a look at the workshop material on the Tasking Manager and found out that it complements learnOSM as it is less technical but more devoted to methodology. The WG agreed that it might warrant a document of its own if it is transferred to learnOSM, particularly as the current TM3 documents are already fairly long.

Michael reported that a number of language codes for the different documents seem to be wrong on the staging site, notably for French and Hungarian. Nick will sort this out.

Other Business

Russell reminded us that there are plans for a Community Webinar on "JOSM for Beginners" which might be staffed by the WG. The current timeframe looks like a one hour timeslot in the second half of May. The WG agreed that a few shorter presentations (10-15 min each) followed by a 5 min Q&A session sound preferable to a 40 min show followed by one Q&A block. We should cover different topics apart from the basic mapping technique. The next WG meeting will serve as a brainstorming session in order to formulate a rough script and to distribute the different tasks among those interested to contribute to this webinar. A trello card has been added to the board in order to get this organized.

If this webinar proves successful we might opt for similar presentations like "iD for Beginners" or maybe some advanced topics. Currently webinars are held on a monthly basis and there are ongoing discussions for a twice monthly schedule. In view of our limited workforce we could probably not staff every second meeting with a training topic.
