About

This page is about importing amenities and shops included in "CORONAVIRUS - Spesa a domicilio" dataset published by Comune di Bologna, Italy.

The import is being discussed in talk-it mailing list. The import will be the result of consensus there.

Goals

This import aims to have an updated set of POIs (OSM amenity=*, shop=*) issued by Comune di Bologna and included in county territory (OSM admin_level=6).

Schedule

Starting from May 2020, a manual import will be performed via Level0 OSM editor and a support umap. Progress will be trackable in the same page ("lime green layers). Depending on mappers involved, import should take 1-2 week to be accomplished.

Import Data

Background

Bologna Opendata web page lists the following dataset (updated 2020-04-09):

  • 675 Elenco negozi spesa a domicilio - spesa_domicilio.csv
  • 675 Elenco negozi spesa a domicilio - spesa_domicilio.json

The subject of this wiki is file "spesa_domicilio.json".

All records are punctual objects which geocoordinates.

Metadata

As defined in Bologna Opendata page, datasets feature the following:

  • source name: CORONAVIRUS - Spesa a domicilio
  • release date: 2020-04-10
  • releaser: Dipartimento Cultura e Promozione della Città
  • author: individual and associated businesses
  • AOI: Bologna county

Legal

  • Data license: Creative Commons Attribuzione 4.0 Internazionale, as stated in Bologna Opendata page; an addendum for use by Openstreetmap has been defined.

Record format and tagging plan

Cleaning and preliminary tagging has been performed via Openrefine. Operations list will be published in github OR-operations repository.

Amenities

Table structure will be pruned and adapted thru OpenRefine; fields will be mapped referring to amenity wiki page.

Shops

Table structure will be pruned and adapted thru OpenRefine; fields will be mapped referring to shop wiki page.

Undefined

In order to assign suitable OSM tags, whenever description and/or category have not been defined by previous Openrefine operations, umap "Tipologia negozio" and "description:it fieds shall be used. Still, if POI category cannot be deduced, "Ricerca dettagli" pop-up link will fire a search engine request.

Import Type

It shall not be a blind import: source data shall be checked and imported by mappers through a Support Umap. Due to the relatively small number of POIs, importing shall be accomplished thru Level0 editing and manual conflation.

Support Umap

The dataset will be imported on its municipal base (OSM admin_level=8). OSM candidate nodes will be presented as pins on a dedicated Support Umap.

Source dataset POI is presented as light blue pin: by clicking it, a pop-up shows link to Level0 and suggested tags that can be copy-pasted into editor. Dark blue pins are from a Nominatim geocode and should be user only for double check.

POIs already in OSM are presented as lime green pins which are updated dinamically by Overpass-turbo query

Team Approach

Import will be managed by the following OSM users:

  • Cascafico

Workflow

Step by step actions:

  1. dataset download
  2. OpenRefine operations
  3. csv upload to support umap
  4. community editing/importing

In case of import problems, changeset involved will be reverted using proper reverter or JOSM plugin.

Data Preparation

The data is presented as GeoJSON files in a collection of georeferenced punctual elements, one for each business.

Refining

Some normalizations require refining operations. Below, a summary of actions performed thru OpenRefine:

  • TBD

Upload

Data is uploaded manually thru Level0 editor linked in support umap pop-ups. Dedicated upload accounts non applicable.
