Use the source:geometry=*
tag to indicate the source of the geometry of objects added to OpenStreetMap. "Geometry" in this case means the shape and position of a node or way. If added to a way, there is no need to add the tag to the individual nodes that make up the way.
- This tag is especially useful when an object's geometry has been imported as it helps to keep a record of where the original data came from.
- The tag can also be used when tracing from aerial imagery, however you may wish to add a source to the changeset instead (which several editors, like iD, already have a place to add it).
Keep in mind that the current recommendation is to add source tags to the changeset instead of individual objects. For more information, see the Key:source page.
For tagging sources of other non-geometry information see source=*
.
Other versions of this tag are used for the same purpose:

How to map
- Main article: Key:source
Values and usage are pretty much same as with source=*
key:
source:geometry=Bing
+source:geometry:date=2012
— object was traced from Bing'12 imagery. Please note that Bing imagery date is not the same date when you trace it!source:geometry=survey
+source:geometry:date=2014-11
— you can use current date if you place objects based on current information and your personal observations in OSM.
