asphalt:type=* is used in combination with surface=asphalt to specify the type of asphalt.

It is suggested to use only generic/categorical values for asphalt:type=* which are not brand-specific. A useful classification can be found here. The actual brand/product may perhaps be specified in a separate tag (e.g. asphalt:brand=*, asphalt:manufacturer=*, asphalt:model=*).

Asphalt surface treatment is not in this list of asphalt types, because the resulting surface is tagged surface=chipseal instead of surface=asphalt.

(This does not apply for porous asphalt surface treatment, where the tagging with surface=asphalt and asphalt:type=porous or asphalt:type=porous:double is not changed by the treatment.)
