bike_friend=yes describes a location which is certified bicycle friendly.
The tag is a proposed feature. For more information, comments and discussion, please go the the proposal page.
What merrits certification is defined by the issuing organisation, but is as a minimum expected to be: free access to a bicycle pump and tools for repairing a flat tire.
Only bicycle friendly places that have a visible certificate on site in the physical world should be tagged. This will typically be in the form of an official sticker, poster, plaque, etc.
