A place that primarily sells cars (automobiles). You can also use this tag for shops that sell buses or trucks. They may also repair cars or sell accessories or parts, but their primary business is selling cars.

Car dealerships (that primarily sell a certain brand of car) and used car lots would also use this tag.

For motorcycle shops, please use shop=motorcycle instead.

How to map

Set a node or draw as an area along the shop outline. Tag it with shop=car.

Tags used in combination

You can use a combination for the service tags like service=dealer;repair;tyres;parts.
But it's recommeded to avoid that. Better use a (simple) namespace, see the example column.
An undiscussed [1] change to the ID editor lead to a confusing bunch of tags. The reason for this decision was apparently that service=* leads to conflicts. So better use the namespace mentioned below.

Tag Description Example
name=* Name of the shop.
opening_hours=* When the shop is open. Mo-Sa 10:00-20:00; Su,PH off
Tool to test the format
operator=* To specify the proprietor or the name of the chain it belongs to. "The operator tag is used to name a company, corporation, person or any other entity who is directly in charge"
brand=* Sold or supported brands Toyota;Nissan;Renault,...
service=dealer car:sales=yes/no/used
service=tyres If it sell tyres. car:tyres=yes/no
service=parts If it sells car parts. In case the shop only sells car parts (usually independent of a specific car brand) you may also use shop=car_parts. car:parts=yes/no
service=repair If it does repair. In case the shop only offers car repair (usually independent of a specific car brand) you may also use shop=car_repair. car:repair=yes/no
service=electrical If it does repair for electrical car. In case the shop only offers car repair (usually independent of a specific car brand) you may also use shop=car_repair. car:type=electric
second_hand=* If it sells second hand cars. yes (if it sells new and second hand), only (if it only sells second hand) OR car:sales=yes;used if both

using a namespace

opening_hours:workshop=* - (in case the workshop opens different to the sales department office / shop)
car:repair=yes/no/glass/tuning/service - (service = not a real workshop, just oil change, tyres and so on)
car:parts=yes/no/custom - (custom = non-standard "tuning" parts or accessories)

Overview about the "service" format

The overview is quite difficult as of the Semi-colon_value_separator
so here's just the most common value
service=repair (only repair)

service contains repair (much more, set the timeout to 100)
