This key lists the parties that claim a version of a disputed boundary to be their boundary. This key was included in a rejected proposal that describes the rationale and semantics in more detail. Despite the rejection, this key is used on a number of disputed boundaries worldwide and may be useful in that context.

By definition, a disputed claim is rejected by one or more parties to the conflict, who can be identified using disputed_by=*. Other entities who are not party to the conflict may recognize the claim; identify them using recognized_by=*.

OpenMapTiles indicates the value of this key, assuming it is an ISO 3166-2 alpha-2 code. [1] Nextzen also distinguishes boundaries by worldview based on this key. [2]
