This tag is used to associate a telephone number, to be called in case of emergencies, with an object.

Some mappers started to add emergency numbers to police stations, hospitals, fire stations. This is fine as long as local numbers are used, and the number is really bound to the object. You should not map objects with universal emergency numbers (e.g. 911 / 110 / 112) for local objects since this could result in non-emergency calls blocking real emergency calls when people try to reach a local police station, hospital, or fire station with non-emergency matters.

Most diplomatic representations, such as embassies and consulates, provide an emergency number for the citizens of the sending country. This number could be used in case of an emergency, such as loss of travel documents, arrest, concerns for well-being, and so on. These phone lines operate 24/7, and the emergency:phone=* key could be used to tag them.

How to map

The syntax should follow the provisions for phone=*.

In case of a diplomatic representation, follow the mapping rules for the diplomatic representations, and add this tag. Occasionally, the emergency phone number is the same as one of the main phone numbers (contact:phone=* or phone=*). You should still add the emergency:phone=* along with the main phone number.
