Status: de facto

A common name in German language.

Note that this tag is useful when object has names specified in more than one language:

  • If name=* is in German it specifies which language is used in main name tag
  • If name=* is in a different language then it specifies name in German

For controversial German names coined during World War II in countries such as Poland, the German-speaking community prefers to use more detailed keys based on old_name:de=* and the date namespace, to keep data consumers from inadvertently using these names matter-of-factly. [1][2]
