Shape

Specifies the shape of the signal. Different signals with different shapes may display similar states with the same meanings. In other words, a state alone does not always indicate the type or shape of the signal on which it is displayed.

In some cases, the railway:signal:main:shape tag may be complemented with a railway:signal:main:type tag to accurately describe the layout of the signal and its lights.

The shape and type key has the same meaning for railway:signal:distant:shape=*.

Type

The key railway:signal:main:type should describe the arrangement of lights and colors on the signal, but it has not yet been defined. The assumption is that the description will be oriented from top to bottom and use English abbreviations for light colors. For example, the key listing would look like this (items/lights separated by semicolons):

  • railway:signal:main:type= Y; G; R; W; Y for the main signal (example according to the illustration in the Czech version)
  • railway:signal:distant:type= Y; G for the distant signal
