Establishments covered by Seveso-III (Directive 2012/18/EU), an European directive related to major accidents involving hazardous substances. It deals with classification, labels, packaging of such substances and their mixtures, the list of hazardous substances, and the types of dangers.
Through the Seveso-III it is possible for a location to be assigned a "Seveso status" that indicates the level of risk related to hazardous materials handled at that location.
Seveso-Classification
Establishments are classified by the quantity of the dangerous substances they operate with. If none of the quantities exceed any of the thresholds of Column 2 (in the tables of Annex I), the Seveso-Directive dose not apply.
When the quantities are between the thresholds of Column 2 (lower) and the thresholds of Column 3 (upper), the establishment is classifed as lower-tier, tagged as seveso=lower[1].
If limits of Column 3 are exceeded the establishment is classified as upper-tier tagged as seveso=upper[1].
