Loch More is an Android and iOS application for recording, storing, and visualizing personal location history and journeys. The app is designed with a privacy-first approach, keeping all recorded location data stored locally on the device.

When offline, Loch More displays recorded journeys on a simplified low-detail map with place names. When an internet connection is available, the app uses online OpenStreetMap tile servers for map visualization.

Features

  • Recording of journeys and location history
  • Visualization of tracks on a map
  • GPX export of recorded journeys
  • Background GPS tracking (fixed interval or passive)
  • Offline usage with reduced map detail
  • Online map display using OpenStreetMap tiles
  • Import location history from Google Maps, Strava, Garmin, or other compatible apps
  • Save places, see visits and add notes

OpenStreetMap usage

Loch More uses OpenStreetMap tile servers as an online map source for displaying recorded journeys and locations. The application does not modify OpenStreetMap data and does not upload any edits or user-generated geographic data to OSM.

Privacy

All recorded location data is stored locally on the user's device. The app does not require user registration and does not transmit location data to external servers.

Optional crash reporting and anonymous usage statistics are collected using third-party services and can be disabled by the user in the app settings.[1]

Developer

Loch More is developed by Tijl Bormans and was first released in 2025.
