Goals

To add every missing address and building in Miami-Dade County to OpenStreetMap without creating duplicates.

Schedule

The import will start late October, 2018, and continue until all features have been added. This should be about 2-5 months.

Integrating Government POI Data with OSM Address and Building Imports

To test the data quality, do the following steps:

  • Open JOSM
  • Ensure that the "remote control" feature is turned on.
  • Click one of the following links. This will load the data into JOSM. This will only work if JOSM is open.

Import Type

A one time import that will be completed in many small uploads via the OSM US Tasking Manager. Many contributors will be encouraged to help. One of the goals of this import is community involvement.

Tagging Plans

"addr:housenumber", "addr:street", "addr:city", "addr:postcode", and "addr:state" will be used on each address point. "building"="yes" will be used on buildings. Some buildings will have address tags added to them. No source tags will be used on the addresses or buildings.

Changeset Tags

"source"="Miami-Dade County GIS Hub" and adequate comments will be used on each changeset.

Data Merge Workflow

Team Approach

The import will use the OpenStreetMap US Tasking Manager, and will engage local contriubtors in helping with the import.

Workflow

Completing each task will involve the following:

  • Click "START MAPPING".
  • Open JOSM.
  • Click the JOSM remote link specific to the task, similar to the links above.
  • Fix any errors in the data, square buildings that require such, and click upload. The importer may also choose to add building type to buildings and merge addresses and buildings with existing OSM data.
  • Upload to OSM server using an import account.

Conflation

Already completed automatically. No duplication will happen.
