OpenStreetMap Bangladesh Affiliation

OpenStreetMap Bangladesh in short “OSMBD” is a community driven organized initiative that represents Bangladeshi contributors, quality maintainers, and good data keepers OpenStreetMap ecosystem in Bangladesh. Since the organized OSM editing being introduced in Bangladesh by students at BUET, thousands of individuals, groups/ teams from NGOs/government & private organizations supported and steered OSM activism. Early 2024 OSMBD voting members through a general election, elected an Eexecutive Ccommittee to support steering the operations and coordination of the community activities.

Though a good number of organizations/ academicians/ individuals are contributing to the OSM data landscape, there is a clear gap in alignment of the works and information sharing. As a result conflicts and redundancies are becoming frequent and obvious. And opportunities for collaboration are lost.

To mitigate the issue, the newly elected Executive Committee is taking an initiative to make a comprehensive documentation on WIKI of all the past and present organized activities and initiatives by different groups and organizations, to ensure a proper archive. At the same time the team will ensure the tagging guidelines, bylaws, and code of conducts are all properly documented to improve data quality and help the new contributors of the community.

To make the initiative a success, the committee needs your support to have the information from your organization/group documented on the wiki.

Benefit

• It Will help create an umbrella for non-profit/for-profit / Academic / individuals in Bangladesh contributing or having operations around OSM data.
• Everyone will be able to use a standard Tagging guideline for Bangladesh.
• OSMBD EC and the working groups will be able to streamline the community communications.
• Will support in facilitating, support & arranginge meetups (Meeting/Events/Party or else).
