Activity Background

Perkumpulan OpenStreetMap Indonesia (Indonesian OpenStreetMap Association) or POI has established a strong partnership with our regional partners, Open Mapping Hub Asia-Pacific (OMHAP). This collaboration aims to support the sustainability of the OpenStreetMap ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region, particularly in Indonesia. In 2022, with the support of OMHAP, POI organized an activity called the Booster Grant, which aimed to help the OSM community development in Indonesia. Through this activity, we assisted 7 communities in Indonesia, enabling them to organize mapping activities in their specific locations.

In June 2023, OMHAP had a great opportunity to visit Indonesia. With their visit, this becomes an amazing opportunity to share, discuss, and learn more about the community development and OpenStreetMap mapping activities in Indonesia. To facilitate this activity, POI organized an in-person 'Community Meet Up 2023' in Jakarta. POI also invited local partners from different backgrounds, so that this activity fosters potential collaborations between POI, OMHAP, and various entities in Indonesia, to further support the OSM movement in the country.

Goals

  • Facilitate Knowledge Exchange
    • Share experiences and insights on community development and OpenStreetMap mapping activities between POI, OMHAP, and local partners.
  • Strengthen Partnerships
    • Enhance collaboration between POI, OMHAP, and various entities in Indonesia to support the OpenStreetMap ecosystem in the Asia-Pacific region.
  • Enhance Community Development
    • Discuss strategies and best practices for empowering local OSM communities in Indonesia to organize effective and sustainable mapping activities.
  • Sharing of the Booster Grant 2022 Impact
