Rationale
The proposal is http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Proposed_features/combined_transport_terminal.
basic idea: to have a polygon and a point where freight container were transshiped - this polygon or point makes it possible to calulate or visualize intermodal connections.
advanced idea: to have a polygon and a point where the transport mode of something (passenger, good, container, package ...) is changed from transport mode A to B (e.g. road --> railway or inland waterway --> railway and so on...)
Definition
basic idea: There is right now no possibility to tag such a terminal near a street, waterway or railway. e.g. the kv-terminal (german for combined transport terminal) frankfurt oder is tagged as a railway plattform, but it is a combined transport terminal and not a railway plattform.
There are worldwide many polygons/points with such a function in harbours and near railways.
Other examples: ElbePort Wittenberge, RLC Wustermark / KV-Terminal Wustermark, BASF Schwarzheide
Additional details for the combined terminals which are operated by logistics service provider... - name of terminal - company-name / contact-person / telephone-number - website - street / number / postcode / city / land / country - for the future: security level
How to map
There is the need for polygons and some details to this polygons.
What can be mapped?
You can map a polygon.
Rendering suggestion
rendering in every scale, but in higher scale as a polygon and in lower scale as a dot.

- I oppose this proposal. Nonsense and the tagging of the terminal in Frankfurt (O.) as a railway plattform is correct!--R-michael 19:01, 15 January 2012 (UTC)
- I oppose this proposal. I'm obviously not the only one having no idea what this is. Maybe add some mapping example with photos? It seems to me that a transshipment terminal is always part of a harbour or railway station. This is ok, but it should be made clear. Worst of all is that you didn't even define values for the proposed key. transshipment=yes or what? I suggest that you refine this proposal and put it into RFC state again. --Fkv 09:18, 18 January 2012 (UTC)
