Proposal talk:Access only

Some roads have an "access only" restriction, which means you can only use the way to access properties along it. This is subtly different to each other restriction currently allowed.

Having access=access, car=access etc. might be a bit confusing mind you :)

I think having bicycle=yes, access=access is a bit more elegant than access_bicycle. The access key value (access=yes/private/etc.) is best as a quick way of saying "this applies to all modes of transport apart from those otherwise specified". In Germany those roads are marked "Anlieger frei". (Sign)

Signs and Signals UK page 3 in the center shows the equivalent sign for the UK. (No motor vehicles - "Except for access")

I do not support the access=residents, beacuse the thing we wannt to tell is "no drive throug with motorized vehicles" (car, truks, motorbikes). Studerap 13:18, 26 June 2007 (BST)

• No this is not what this key is supposed to mean. For that you can simply say motorcar=no;motorcycle=no. This is a forbidden road unless you happen to live there (or visit somebody who lives there). So access=residents is what is really meant and I therefore support it. One minor point, these aren't only used in residential areas, there might be a sign saying you can only use a road to access a school for example. I can't think of a good word to sum the different reasons up, though, except for "access" and "user" which are both pretty rubbish. TomChance 10:37, 12 September 2007 (BST)

In Germany, "Anlieger frei" not only applies to residents living in this street, but also to people visiting residents, delivering goods to those people etc. Therefore, I do not support access=residents. access=access sounds confusing to me. Something else to bear in mind is that some roads can have a weight restriction except for access, rather than banning all motor vehicles except for access. Richard B 13:33, 12 September 2007 (BST)

I guess you could be a tad more verbose, like "access=accessonly"? I was also thinking of "no drive through", but I guess that's a bit different (more permissive) from what access only means. Tsok 05:36, 25 September 2007 (BST)
