Proposal

This tag would be useful to map the Fab Labs. A very few of them are present in OSM but very difficult to find because of the lack of a proper tag. There exists a map built upon a wiki list [1], but it only pinpoints the general vicinity with no exact location.

Examples

There are several hundreds of these worldwide (between 200 and 400), and the numbers grows as it becomes more popular.

Tagging

The tag probably falls under the category of amenities like art centers because the vast majority of them are open to the public, but it could also be considered as a workshop in a more general way. I didn't find any key for workshop though, and I think amenity is a better fit. If there's other possible category or key for it, please share in the Discussion section.

It would be used with the general tags "name", "adress", etc.

Applies to

Nodes, particularly buildings.

Comments

Do not use spaces in the value. --Reneman (talk) 14:17, 14 March 2013 (UTC)

Is there a technical reason ? I see lots of tags with spaces, and I don't know why there should not be any. Thanks if you can enlighten me. JohannCR (talk) 15:35, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
I saw the whitespace in the header. See http://forum.openstreetmap.org/viewtopic.php?id=20433 --Reneman (talk) 17:30, 14 March 2013 (UTC)
