What is a self-organized session?

Besides the main programme of SotM we want to offer space for self-organized sessions. In past years, those sessions were a large success. A lot of topics are well placed in smaller rounds. The only requirement that we have to your topic is that it has to be related to OpenStreetMap.

We use this wiki page for organizing online self-organized sessions; for on-site self-organized session, we will set up a white board at the conference venue to reserve their timeslot and room. The only requirements we have is that the participants have a conference ticket which grants them access to the conference platform that we use and that they abide to the SotM Code of Conduct.

If you have any questions, you are welcome to ask us - please email to program-sotm@openstreetmap.org.

Technical requirements

From a technical point of view, an online self organized session is a video conference. You and your participants need a computer with a microphone and ideally a camera. Participants who are attending the conference in Florence are encouraged to bring their own devices (computer or mobile), microphone and headphones to be able to focus and participate in the online self-organized session.

The video conference itself takes place in a web browser using BigBlueButton (BBB). If you are the host of such a video conference, please test your equipment beforehand (you could use the BBB instance provided by the OSMF for this). The BBB rooms in the conference platform can hold up to 100 participants.

We currently offer 3 BBB rooms for self-organized sessions - if this is not enough, please get in touch, we should be able to organize more if needed.

Registration of an on-site self-organized sessions (in Florence, Italy)

We will set up a white board where you can sign up, and reserve your timeslot and room at the conference .

Registration of an online self-organized sessions

If you want to hold an online self-organized session, just put it in one of the below tables. The duration doesn't need to be precise, but this helps other session organizers to schedule their session at a time when your session is supposed to be finished. Please use the OsmUser template (using something like {{OsmUser|Your OSM username}}) or OSM wiki user name (using something like [[User:YourOSMWikiUserName|YourOSMWikiUserName]] ([[User talk:YourOSMWikiUserName|talk]]) (which you can automatically do by entering three swung dashes (~~~))) in the organizer column - this provides us a simple way to contact you if needed.
