Project description

The project aims to fill in missing value for the maxspeed=, maxspeed:forward= and maxspeed:backward= values for roads in Sweden.

Method

The project is semi-automated and the workflow is as follows:

  1. A custom made program written in Rust and using the geo-crate is comparing geometries from the data soruce (Trafikverket) and current OSM-mapping.
  2. If the program finds matches regarding similarities and non-existing maxspeed values it creates a OSM-changeset entry with the maxspeed value from the data source.
  3. The changefile is imported into JOSM and manually controlled before upload. The typical size of a changeset is between 200-2000 roads, depending on geographic area. A maximum of 2200 changes in a single changeset is practised.

Restrictions

This project does not remove existing data. Only filling in blanks. An expansion of the project is possible though, identifying outdated or inaccurate maxspeed values, but that would be another project.

Following

The project can be followed under #SweFixMaxspeed.

Data source

The project will only be using data provided by the governmental authority Trafikverket. The data is licensed under CC0 1.0 universal.
