Status: de facto

A building that was constructed to house fire fighting equipment ready for use, usually fire engines with fast access to the road. May also house the fire fighters themselves. May be used differently now. This tag is only describing the building. For a fire station (function), be sure to add amenity=fire_station to the grounds.

How to map

Draw an area area along the building of the fire station.

If the detail for the area is not available you might be able to estimate the building footprint.

Use a multipolygon relation for buildings with voids.

Tag it with building=fire_station.

Only if the building is named use the name=*, the fire station name does not belong on the building, that goes on amenity=fire_station. The sample photo shows the name Blacktown Fire Station, this is not the building name but that of the fire station.

Where multiple buildings exist map each one individually, as is normal mapping practice.

Use amenity=fire_station for the grounds of the whole area, if it is still an active fire station.
