This feature has been labeled as deprecated. The recommended replacement is: hazard=landslide.
The reason is documented in Deprecated features. You are still free to continue to use or interpret this tag as you see fit since OpenStreetMap does not have “banned features”.
Under no circumstances should you (semi-)automatically change “deprecated” tags to something else in the database on a large scale without conforming to the automated edits code of conduct. Any such change will be reverted.

Consider using hazard=landslide instead. It was approved as part of general hazard proposal (as of January 2021).
Summary
The tag hazard_type=landslide comprises all the hazards that involve massive displacement of earth, mud, stones... Although those hazards are quite different from each other, it is not easy for non-specialists to make the distinction. As this distinction is not essential for general humanitarian purposes, we thus propose to simplify the ontology.
