Use area:highway=prohibited for an area of a road surface that vehicles are not supposed to stop on or traverse. It is commonly used for painted hatched areas, for example beside parking lanes, and for non-traversable areas where roads diverge.

How to map

Draw the outline of the prohibited area and add area:highway=prohibited.

Do not use this tag for a physical traffic island or another solid obstacle. Map the actual feature with a more appropriate tag instead.
