This tag is used on national expressways (高速自動車国道 kōsoku jidōsha kokudō) in Japan, signed with green signs. Route numbers are prefixed with E for most routes (such as E1 for the Tomei Expressway) and C for ring routes (such as C4 for the Ken-O Expressway). Route numbers for expressways supplementing existing routes are suffixed with A (such as with E1A Shin-Tomei Expressway).
