residential=apartments is a subtag of landuse=residential and is used to specify the outline of an apartment complex. Implies residential=urban.
Note: this tag is for an apartment complex consisting of apartment buildings, car parking, landscaping, etc, on one site. For a stand-alone apartment building, which may or may not form part of a larger apartment complex, use building=apartments.
How to Map
Draw an area around the grounds of the apartment complex, and add
landuse=residential ,residential=apartments, and name=*.
Add the address for the complex to the overall area.
For individual buildings, add any necessary addr:*=* tags such as addr:housenumber=*, addr:unit=*, and addr:flats=*.
Rather than applying these tags to the building, it may be appropriate to apply these to individual entrance=* nodes.
Buildings and entrances are often referenced by letter or number and should have ref=* in such cases.
Some of these buildings will often include an office=property_management along with some amenities for tenants such amenity=letter_box, leisure=fitness_centre, or shop=laundry. These should be mapped as separate nodes or ways within the complex as appropriate.
Some apartment complexes have an entrance barrier=gate and barrier=fence fully or partially surrounding the perimeter.
