Usually the pipeline is mapped just with simple ways 
. See man_made=pipeline.
But when the pipeline is long it is usually mapped with several separate ways. In that case it some mappers in addition have created relation.
How to map
Create a relation 
of the type route and add the tag route=pipeline. This should be done in addition to tagging individual ways as man_made=pipeline.
