Description
Describes the surface of a feature roughly as predominantly paved over the whole surface area; i.e., covered with paving stones, concrete, bitumen or asphalt. This value gives only a rough description; use a more precise value if possible. Show/edit corresponding data item.

Specifies that object, usually road is paved i.e., covered with paving stones, concrete, bitumen, or asphalt. This value gives only a rough description; use a more precise value if possible.

This value is not specific, it is always better to use more specific one if it is possible.

Note difference between surface=asphalt and surface=unhewn_cobblestone - both could be tagged as surface=paved. Using more specific correct value is always preferable.
