A few suggestions for trunk roads

User:Archpdx, I love the work you've done here so far. Most classifications look good to me, and I don't think I'd add any additional trunk roads beyond what you've proposed. However, there are a couple that you list as trunk that I'm not sure should be:

  • US 93 north of Twin Falls. US 93 forms the shortest-distance route from Twin Falls to Missoula, but I'm not sure I'd call it the best route. This route goes through some very remote areas of the country with limited services, slow-going windy terrain, and extremely low traffic counts. It is also (according to Google Maps right now) only four minutes slower than taking interstates the entire way by way of Idaho Falls. I'd be inclined to say that I-15 is the best route, leaving US 93 for primary. South of Twin Falls it's absolutely trunk, no dispute there.
  • US 89: Only a very such a short section of route exists in Idaho, with almost no utility to the state itself. I see this as a similar situation to US 95 in Oregon; I'd think that it's probably best to just leave this section of road's classification to whatever the Utah and Wyoming guidance says. Personally, I don't see Logan to Jackson as a vital enough connection to justify trunk, but others could disagree...
  • US 20 between I-84 and US 93: The only justification that this route would have as trunk is part of the best route between Mountain Home and Missoula. But I don't see this as an important-enough connection to justify trunk; Mountain Home has less than 20,000 people. I'd lean towards this being primary instead.

I see that someone else has also upgraded US 20 and US 26 to trunk between US 93 and I-15. Seems like we're both in agreement that these should not be trunk, since they neither form part of the best route between any decently-sized cities nor have exceptionally-high traffic counts.

Do you have any thoughts on these changes? Oregonian3 (talk) 00:03, 30 December 2022 (UTC)

Thanks for the feedback User:Oregonian3! I agree with the points you made for those three routes. Archpdx (talk) 04:55, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
Awesome. If nobody has any objections within a week or so I can go ahead and make the changes. Oregonian3 (talk) 18:08, 31 December 2022 (UTC)
