Vehicle classification

The primary purpose of a practicability tag seems to be to define what is the maximum or minimum vehicle which can use a particular route.

In the DRC (Democratic Republic of the Congo) and other equatorial countries the roads can be really bad.

Some are narrow tracks widely used by nothing bigger than a motorcycle.

Some are passable only by 4x4 or 6x6 forestry service or ex-military heavy trucks. Unimog, Kamaz, DAF etc.

Some better roads will allow a normal 4x4 light vehicle - Toyota Hilux, Isuzu D-Max

Others are passable with light 2x4 cars and mini-bus vehicles.

And in many places there are well surfaced roads that are suitable for normal 18 wheeler commercial trucking.

So a good start may be to list a vehicle / truck typology.

I think that surface=*, width=*, smoothness=*, seasonal=* and winter_road=* defines road characteristics more exactly and less subjective. Something B (talk) 14:18, 30 September 2023 (UTC)
